Tottenham Hotspur overhauled their squad during the summer transfer window.
After making ten new signings, a handful of key players like Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero and Djed Spence departed the club, while other young players were loaned out.
And now, Jamie Donley has made a rather interesting claim on Roberto De Zerbi and the pathway for young footballers at Tottenham.
Jamie Donley makes honest Tottenham admission
“When I came in for pre-season I spoke to [De Zerbi] a little bit and he said that he liked me, and I went out to Australia and played quite a lot,” said Donley.
“Then a few of the lads came back from the World Cup and so then I was kind of pushed away a little bit. Towards the end of the window, I had a clear idea of what I was going to be doing.
“It’s difficult because there are so many players and they’re signing £100million players. I’m not arrogant enough to think I’m going to be playing over them.
“They don’t really give you a pathway. It’s about getting minutes. I’m still young so it’s about doing well and going back next year and showing progress.”
Donley featured in pre-season when the senior players were unavailable, but Tottenham did the right thing by sanctioning a loan move for him.
Whether or not he makes it at the club remains to be seen, but his move was certainly the right step considering the numbers of options De Zerbi has at his disposal right now.
