‘We’re not sleeping’ – Roberto De Zerbi makes controversial Tottenham claim

Tottenham’s 3-2 defeat against Aston Villa has raised concerns over the quality of their squad and Roberto De Zerbi’s coaching.

The Lilywhites went 3-0 behind and the game was done as a contest, after which they scored two consolation goals through Conor Gallagher and Jan Paul van Hecke.

Tottenham’s attackers drew a blank again as they flattered to deceive in front of goal.

And Roberto De Zerbi admits financial fair play concerns prevented them from adding another striker to their squad late in the transfer window.

De Zerbi admits Tottenham transfer failures

“The transfer market is long to explain because I am happy with the squad first of all,” said the Italian via Football London.

“But the transfer market was long; they changed the situation changed many times.

“There was also the financial fair play at the end of the transfer market and we had to respect the financial fair play.

“We didn’t sell the players who we fought in the beginning; there was the possibility of a chance to sell, there are a lot of reasons.

“I think the club and the coach, we are not sleeping, we know the characteristics of the players, we know everything, and if we didn’t make any different decisions, it was because we couldn’t.”

Granted, Richarlison’s exit could have allowed Tottenham to draft in a suitable replacement.

However, no one wants to hear comments like this after another sobering defeat as ten new players did join the club in the summer transfer window.

De Zerbi needs to sort out this mess at the earliest or Tottenham could be set for another long season in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
