Tottenham head into the international break in the Premier League relegation zone after their 3-2 home defeat against Aston Villa.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side started well and should have scored, while they also had a goal ruled out for offside.
However, Villa took control of the game and goals from Johan Manzambi, Nicolas Jackson and Emi Buendia effectively killed the game as a contest.
Conor Gallagher and Jan Paul van Hecke got their names on the scoresheet deep into stoppage time, but they were nothing but consolations.
And speaking after the game, De Zerbi feels Dom Solanke is currently struggling for confidence.
De Zerbi says Solanke struggling for Tottenham
The England international started in attack alongside Savio and Omar Marmoush, with Mateus Fernandes stationed as a No.10.
The latter was substituted at half-time, and Savio tried his best to make things happen, but Solanke cut a frustrated figure and never got into the game.
“We need more from him for sure but he’s one of my players,” said De Zerbi via Football London when asked about the Englishman.
“I like Domi as a player and I stay with him until the end. He needs to feel better. His physical condition is not good enough.
“Maybe he is not good enough in confidence at this moment, but many, many things can be better than this moment.”
Solanke is clearly rated by De Zerbi, but as Tottenham’s leading frontman, he has to start delivering as they don’t have another reliable goalscorer in the team.
