‘Incredible’ – De Zerbi pinpoints Tottenham moment that ‘really disappointed’ him vs Aston Villa

Tottenham Hotspur head into the international break in the Premier League relegation zone as they fell to a 3-2 defeat against Aston Villa at home.

Goals from Johan Manzambi, Nicolas Jackson and Emi Buendia gave the away side a 3-0 lead as the game looked done and dusted as a contest.

Tottenham struck back late in the game through Conor Gallagher and Jan Paul van Hecke, but those goals proved to be mere consolations.

And speaking after the game, Roberto De Zerbi didn’t mince his words as he expressed his disappointment at the second goal, in particular.

Jackson struck from just outside the box after turning Micky van de Ven as the ball bounced into the back of the net despite Antonin Kinsky getting his hand to it.

And De Zerbi feels Tottenham should have never conceded a goal like that, adding that he was frustrated with that passage of play.

“Today I am very disappointed, very sad and very frustrated with the performance,” said the Italian via Football London.

“We can’t lose this game in this way, absolutely. We can’t concede that second goal.

“We can’t lose balance. The way we conceded the second goal was incredible.”

The Lilywhites are a work in progress but have already slipped into the relegation zone despite splashing the cash in the summer transfer window.

It’s still early days, but Tottenham have a lot of work to do to become a force to be reckoned with again.
