Tottenham fell to another defeat under Roberto De Zerbi as Liverpool knocked them out of the Carabao Cup after a 3-1 win at Anfield.
The Lilywhites actually played quite well on the night, but once again, they couldn’t make their chances count.
Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo and Dom Szoboszlai got the goals for the home side, while Conor Gallagher’s close-range finish in the second half gave the visitors some hope before that was killed off in stoppage time.
And speaking after the game, Roberto De Zerbi feels his side were unlucky as they simply didn’t shoot much or make their chances count.
De Zerbi says Tottenham defeat vs Liverpool ‘unfair’
“We have to shoot more times, we have to shoot better,” said the Italian via Football London.
“We have to finish better the clear situations, but we are sorry for the result, disappointed, frustrated for the result.
“I think, unfair, but we have to accept and to be stronger than this unlucky moment, because I’m honest, I’m honest with myself and I’m honest with you, I think in these five, six games, we have been for sure not lucky with Newcastle, with Everton, even with Nottingham and tonight as well.
“A lot of things, because the first goal we conceded we didn’t defend in the right way, and the second goal we could be closer with Gakpo, but have to understand if we are in the right way or not, I think watching the game, the last three games, four games, maybe until minute 60 with Newcastle, I think we are in the right way.”
Tottenham’s attackers really need to start delivering the goods as the rest of them actually produced a fighting display at Anfield.
If they had their shooting boots on, the result could have been entirely different, as was the case against Everton last weekend.
