Tottenham were knocked out of the Carabao Cup after they suffered a 3-1 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side have won just one game this season – which was in the third round of this competition – and have a lot of work to do to be a force to be reckoned with.
That said, the game against Liverpool had a few positives as they produced one of their best performances of the season despite losing.
James Maddison’s injury return was also a big boost as the England international made his first appearance of the season as a second-half substitute.
And now, De Zerbi feels Maddison is a special player who can add another dimension to Tottenham’s attack.
De Zerbi hails Maddison’s Tottenham return
“Maddison is for sure a different player, a special player,” said the Italian via Football London.
“But he has to be fit; he has to be in the right physical condition. Because the Premier League intensity, even tonight, is incredible.
“And then we can play with eight attackers. Also the goalkeeper.”
Having the Englishman man could change Tottenham’s fortunes as he’d be stationed as a No.10, with the likes of Savio, Omar Marmoush and Mohammed Kudus competing to play either side of him.
