‘Naive’ – Michael Brown reveals where Tottenham need to improve after Liverpool defeat

Tottenham Hotspur fell to a 3-1 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield as they were eliminated from the Carabao Cup.

The Lilywhites actually fared quite well on the night but once again couldn’t make it count in front of goal.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side were comfortably the better team in the opening exchanges but went behind through Alexis Mac Allister, while Cody Gakpo added another in the second half.

And just when it looked like Conor Gallagher’s goal would give them some hope, Dom Szoboszlai settled the tie with a fantastic long-range effort.

Tottenham clearly fared quite well, but Michael Brown feels they need to improve a lot to be a force to be reckoned with.

Michael Brown on what Tottenham need to do to improve

“I think if we’re being charitable, they scored a goal from a set-piece,” said Brown via the BBC.

“But overall, the bulk of the game they were a bit too nice and a bit naive. There’s some positives, but still big improvements needed from this Spurs side.”

It hasn’t been the start to the season everyone would have hoped for. However, De Zerbi’s philosophy is clear and his players are starting to buy into his methods.

Even today, Tottenham missed a couple of glorious chances to score, so the result could have been a lot different if that wasn’t the case.
