Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino are an eternal love affair despite mutually parting ways in 2019.
Since then, the Lilywhites have had a bunch of managers and have backed Roberto De Zerbi to turn things around.
However, before the Italian’s arrival, there were reports that Pochettino could return to the club to succeed Igor Tudor last season.
And now, the Argentine has confirmed that he would have taken the job even if Tottenham were relegated to the Championship.
Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham confession is top class
“The problem was that the timings were never the best,” said Pochettino via The Telegraph when asked about a potential return to Tottenham.
“When I was free, I never received a contact and then when I was working, I received a contact.”
“In this (difficult) moment, they called everyone – free or not free. If I was free, of course, I come, but I wasn’t free. I was preparing the World Cup.
“It was a little bit unlucky. But maybe one day the stars will align and it can happen.”
Even if Spurs were in the Championship? Pochettino insisted: “Yes, of course. It’s the only club that always I am open to help. Whatever division. Another club, no, but Tottenham, yes.”
