Things haven’t gone as planned for Tottenham Hotspur at the start of the new Premier League season.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side have picked up just one point from three league games so far and are coming on the back of a 0-0 draw against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
In their defeat against Newcastle United, there was a dubious decision involving Omar Marmoush and Malick Thiaw as the Lilywhites felt they should have had a penalty.
Darren England was the VAR that day and didn’t give Tottenham a penalty. And now, it has been confirmed that he will referee their Premier League clash against Everton on Saturday.
Darren England to officiate Tottenham vs Everton
To be fair to England, The Premier League’s Key Match Incidents panel confirmed that it was the correct decision to not award Tottenham a penalty for Thiaw’s kick on Marmoush in Gameweek 2.
However, Spurs fans will still be enraged as at the time, it looked like a stonewall penalty and we’ve seen those decisions given in the past.
Nevertheless, England will take centre stage when the two sides face off in North London on Saturday.
And don’t be surprised if you hear the Tottenham fans giving him a piece of their mind if he makes a questionable decision or two.
