‘Excuse-laden’ – Troy Deeney tears into Tottenham and Roberto De Zerbi

‘Excuse-laden’ – Troy Deeney tears into Tottenham and Roberto De Zerbi

Tottenham Hotspur remain winless in the Premier League this season after three games and have just a point to show for their efforts so far.

After successive defeats against Brentford and Newcastle United, the Lilywhites got a point against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground last season to get their campaign up and running.

However, in recent weeks, Roberto De Zerbi has been vocal about his players not being ready, claiming that they have all been together only since last week when the transfer window slammed shut.

And it appears as if Troy Deeney is having none of those claims as he ripped into the Italian for his comments.

Troy Deeney slams Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi

“This whole ‘we’ve only been working together since Thursday’, not true is it?” said Deeney via talkSPORT.

“Because you were in the back end of last year, so you’ve had all of Pre-season, you’ve added pieces along the way, you’ve had Tonali who didn’t even go to the World Cup, what’s his excuse for him still playing bad?

“It’s already excuse-laden; I think that’s what Spurs do, they make excuses.”

Tottenham have essentially overhauled their squad, so they will take time to click into gear.

Whether or not De Zerbi’s comments are coming off an excuse, the fact of the matter is that the Lilywhites have improved between each Premier League game this season, which is a clear sign that they are headed on the right path.
