Tottenham Hotspur made ten new signings during the summer transfer window as Roberto De Zerbi splashed the cash to breathe new life into his squad.
It looked like he would finish the window with eight signings, but the likes of Mykhaylo Mudryk and Tosin Adarabioyo were snapped up from Chelsea on deadline day.
A move for Mudryk, in particular, raised a lot of eyebrows as the Ukrainian hasn’t played a competitive game of football since his two-year ban was lifted.
And now, the Italian believes the Chelsea loanee has all the qualities to become a key player for the club, provided he gets time to get into the groove.
De Zerbi says Mudryk needs time at Tottenham
“He needs time to be able to start,” said De Zerbi when asked about Mudryk in his pre-match press conference.
“To play one part of the game, he’s ready right now to play 15-20 minutes. We spent a very particular season together at Shakhtar.
“When I spoke about the Ballon d’Or I was very clear. I was speaking about the potential of the player. The player can respect the prediction or not.
“He has had plenty of problems, most recently the ban. He has plenty of qualities, though, and he needs to feel this season in the right way, not too much pressure.
“It’s the right time for him to show why Chelsea spent €100m on him. I think he’s ready to play part of the game.”
Mudryk has endured a turbulent time over the past two years, but playing under a familiar face in De Zerbi could be exactly what the doctor ordered for him.
