Tottenham endured the most eventful transfer window in their history as Roberto De Zerbi aimed to overhaul his squad.
Ten new players arrived and several others left as they scrambled to fine-tune their squad until the transfer deadline.
Even on deadline day, Kevin Danso moved to Sunderland, while the Lilywhites completed the signing of Mykhaylo Mudryk and Tosin Adarabioyo.
Richarlison was left out of Tottenham’s Premier League squad in what was a shock decision from De Zerbi. The Brazilian has been linked with a move to Trabzonspor and was also in talks to return to Everton before the window slammed shut.
And now, De Zerbi has provided some clarity on his situation as Tottenham continue to assess their options.
De Zerbi says Richarlison wants to leave Tottenham
“Richarlison decided everything alone,” said the Italian in his pre-match press conference.
“He spoke with me at the beginning of pre-season. He told me his idea, his desire was to leave. In the end we went to bring another striker and like I said at the start of pre-season, I want to keep only the players who want to stay with pride and the right passion to stay here.
“Then for other problems it’s not my business, it’s the job of the club. I can’t say anything because I didn’t decide anything.
“The message of Richarlison from the beginning of pre-season has been very clear and I accepted that. I don’t know if there is an offer from Turkey.
“I don’t know if the club accepted this offer. I know there was an offer before the end of the transfer market but he did not accept that offer. For me, nothing changes.”
Judging by De Zerbi’s comments, Richarlison is set to depart the club in the coming days before the Turkish transfer window slams shut.
It’s a pitiful situation in all honesty, as he has conducted himself quite well during his stint with the club, so his departure could have been handled with a bit more class and sensitivity.
