Tottenham Hotspur lost their first two games of a Premier League season for the first time in 15 years as they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Newcastle United.
Matthias Jaissle’s side were comfortably the better of the two sides and deservedly went ahead in the second half thanks to a fantastic strike from Anthony Elanga.
Yoane Wissa then doubled their advantage from close range as he turned the ball into the net after Nick Woltemade’s header fell kindly to him.
Tottenham tried to force the occasion, but it just didn’t happen for them as they fell flat in front of their home fans.
And Rob Green feels they never looked like scoring as they fell to another disappointing defeat.
Tottenham suffer successive defeats
Tottenham were without Savio, who was left out due to muscle fatigue.
However, new signing Omar Marmoush was named in the starting XI and Mohammed Kudus returned to the bench, while players like Dom Solanke and Mikey Moore were on the bench.
Despite boasting so many attacking players, the home side didn’t create too many chances or trouble Newcastle keeper Lukas Hornicek, barring a first-half header from Jan Paul van Hecke.
“It feels like Tottenham could play all night and not score,” said Green via the BBC.
“It just hasn’t been their afternoon. They’ve tried, but the quality just hasn’t been there.”
Tottenham face Nottingham Forest next, who held Liverpool to a 2-2 draw earlier today at Anfield.
