Harry Kane makes major Premier League return admission after Tottenham exit

Harry Kane has cooled talk of a Premier League return after admitting the desire to come back to England is no longer as strong as it was when he left Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Spurs striker departed north London for Bayern Munich in 2023, but speculation over an eventual return has followed him throughout his hugely successful spell in Germany.

Kane has now addressed the possibility himself in a fresh interview with FourFourTwo.

“When I first left Spurs, for sure it was something that I thought I’d definitely be coming back,” Kane said.

But the England captain added: “That itch isn’t there as much anymore.”

Harry Kane Premier League return hopes cooled

Kane’s comments represent a significant update for Tottenham supporters who continue to hope the club’s all-time leading goalscorer could eventually return.

ReadTottenham reported in July that Kane was not expected to make a Tottenham return this summer, with Bayern determined to keep the striker as they chase further major honours.

The difference now is that Kane himself has explained how his thinking has changed since leaving Spurs.

The 33-year-old said he is “extremely happy” in Munich and credited his time abroad with opening his eyes to a different side of European football.

He has plenty of reasons to be settled.

Kane scored 36 Bundesliga goals last season to claim his second European Golden Shoe and has now scored 146 goals in 147 appearances for Bayern, according to Reuters.

He also remains only 47 goals short of Alan Shearer’s record of 260 Premier League goals, having scored 213 during his time with Tottenham.

That record had long provided an obvious reason for Kane to return to England before the end of his career.

His latest admission suggests breaking it is no longer driving his future plans in the way many may have expected.

Kane has not completely closed the door on England and insisted he would “never say never”, but his immediate focus remains Bayern.

With his current contract running until 2027 and discussions over his future expected, any romantic Tottenham reunion now appears considerably less inevitable than it once did.
