‘We missed’ – Mathys Tel reveals what Roberto De Zerbi has changed at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur stepped up their preparations for the upcoming Premier League season with a commanding 3-0 win against Hoffenheim.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side will take on the Bundesliga outfit again in a friendly tomorrow, although unlike this one – which was played at a packed Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – that one will be played behind closed doors.

A first-half goal from Richarlison, followed by a brace from Mikey Moore after the interval, settled the tie in the home side’s favour.

And once again, Mathys Tel put on a fantastic showing as he continues to stake a claim for a starting spot.

Speaking after the game, the Frenchman was full of praise for De Zerbi, who has breathed new life into the club.

Tel hails De Zerbi’s Tottenham impact

Tel’s only goal in pre-season was a fantastic free-kick vs Sydney FC, but against Hoffenheim, he flourished as the creative hub of the team as he provided two assists for Moore.

And after the game, the former Bayern Munich attacker praised De Zerbi for bringing the energy back at Tottenham, which they lacked under Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor.

“I’d say the energy. Last year we missed this energy, and now we can feel it on the pitch and off the pitch,” said the Frenchman.

“The manager is behind us, always with us. We can see on the pitch we’re all together, so I’m very happy.”

Tel has been Tottenham’s best player in pre-season and should start their season opener vs Brentford.
