‘Truth’ – Roberto De Zerbi names the Tottenham new signing who can be a leader

Tottenham Hotspur have spent in excess of £230m on six new recruits this summer in a spending spree for the ages.

The likes of Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali, Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Martin Dubravka have joined the club.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side aren’t quite done yet as they remain on the lookout for at least one attacking player, with Savinho and Cody Gakpo linked.

However, regardless of who they sign, the transfer fee and hype aren’t expected to eclipse what was the case when Sandro Tonali joined the club.

Roberto De Zerbi tips Sandro Tonali for Tottenham leadership role

Tonali was signed for a club-record fee worth £100m as he made the move to the club from Newcastle United.

He was a key player for the Magpies, as was the case with AC Milan, where he also captained the club on a few occasions.

And De Zerbi feels the Italian midfielder has all the tools to stand up and be counted as a leader for his new club.

“Tonali can carve out a leadership role here,” said De Zerbi.

“I convinced him myself; I told him the truth: I always say what I think, and I believe he has always been a leader in top teams.”

With Cristian Romero set to leave, Tottenham could do well with new players stepping up to the plate, as De Zerbi would want to install a new leadership group at the club.

The likes of Tonali, James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Robertson are all expected to be a part of his thinking.
