Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for their third pre-season friendly as they take on Sydney FC later today.
Roberto De Zerbi opted to rest a lot of his big hitters against Auckland FC as a much-changed squad captained by Archie Gray secured a 2-0 win.
Ahead of the game, though, there has been a rather outrageous rumour involving Mateus Fernandes.
The Portuguese international got off the mark at Tottenham with a worldie against MK Dons and has already made a massive impression at the club.
Yesterday, a few Tottenham fans raised fears that Fernandes is injured and even speculated that he is the latest player to pick up an ACL injury as he wasn’t spotted training with the group.
And now, the reliable Alasdair Gold has poured cold water over claims that Tottenham’s midfield dynamo is injured.
Tottenham midfielder Mateus Fernandes is not injured
Gold’s overnight update came as music to the ears of the Tottenham faithful, the ones who stayed awake at least.
An excerpt from his Football London column read, “While at this point Fernandes is unlikely to start Tottenham’s latest pre-season friendly in Australia against Sydney FC on Wednesday, the midfielder is not injured.
“Instead, it is because head coach Roberto De Zerbi has been pushing the players hard in training, especially those who returned earlier to pre-season, and various players’ time in sessions and matches is being monitored and managed based on a variety of factors such as fatigue, little niggles, illness or even jet lag.”
Nothing more to say here as we’ve heard it from one of the most reliable figures within the Tottenham community. Rest easy, everyone!
