Tottenham Hotspur have officially announced on their social media channels that Will Lankshear has sealed a permanent transfer to Middlesbrough.
The young striker was rated highly at the club and was initially set to depart on loan, but Boro’s offer ultimately proved to be too good to turn down as they reluctantly agreed to move him on.
In an elaborate statement on their website, Tottenham wrote: “We have reached agreement with Middlesbrough for the transfer of Will Lankshear.
“The striker joined our Academy from Sheffield United in August, 2022.
“He was top scorer in our Under-21s’ Premier League 2 title-winning season of 2023/24, earning recognition as the Premier League 2 Player of the Season.
“Making his first team debut from the start against Ferencvaros in the UEFA Europa League in October, 2024, Will made six senior appearances for us, scoring once against Galatasaray in the Europa League in November, 2024. His Premier League debut followed against Fulham in December, 2024.
“From there, Will spent time on loan in the Championship, first with West Brom for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign, then with Oxford United last term, where he scored 12 goals in 46 appearances, including 11 in 43 league games.
“We wish Will all the best for the future.”
Tottenham get £20m package for Will Lankshear
When the deal was virtually agreed, Alasdair Gold revealed some numbers, which came as good news for Tottenham.
The Lilywhites are set to get a guaranteed fee of £10m plus another £10m in add-ons, taking the overall fee to up to £20m.
Additionally, they also have a 20% sell-on clause and matching rights for any future bids, which is a sign that Lankshear might just return to the club at some point in the future.
It goes without saying that it’s hard to see him go, but it is also the right move for all parties involved, as Lankshear has finally found a permanent home, while Tottenham got more than a decent fee for their development of the player.
