Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro is a world champion after Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 following extra time in New Jersey.
Porro started at right-back for Luis de la Fuente’s side at the MetLife Stadium as Spain secured their second men’s World Cup title.
Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez repeatedly denied Spain during a goalless 90 minutes. Enzo Fernández’s late red card then left the holders with 10 players for extra time.
Ferran Torres finally broke the deadlock in the 106th minute, converting inside the penalty area to secure Spain’s first World Cup since 2010. The Associated Press reported that Spain dominated the final before earning their extra-time victory.
Porro completes memorable World Cup campaign
The final completed a remarkable tournament for Porro, who established himself as Spain’s first-choice right-back during the knockout stages.
His standout moment arrived in the semi-final against France. Porro scored Spain’s second goal and collected the Player of the Match award during a 2-0 victory.
