- Tottenham Hotspur host Everton at home later today
- West Ham United take on Leeds United
- Roberto De Zerbi’s side could still get relegated
Tottenham Hotspur could still be relegated today as they prepare for arguably their most important game of the Premier League era against Everton.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side have their destiny in their own hands, but the margin for error is as low as it’s ever been.
Tottenham are two points above the relegation zone and will have one eye on the West Ham game, with all ten fixtures set to kick off at the same time.
And while local rivals Arsenal prepare for their coronation, the Lilywhites could be headed for the Championship.
Tottenham need to better or match West Ham’s result
The gap between the two sides is just two points, due to which the relegation battle has dragged on until the last week of the season.
Tottenham could have mathematically confirmed safety with a positive result against Chelsea last week.
However, they were beaten 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in a performance that caused a lot of worry and anxiety among the Tottenham faithful.
As seen in the graphic below, there are nine possibilities in terms of Tottenham and West Ham’s results today.
And only one of them could lead to the Lilywhites suffering relegation: West Ham beating Leeds United while they lose at home to Everton.
Everything is at stake and the atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium is going to be as anxious as it’s ever been.
De Zerbi feels Tottenham will stay up
De Zerbi has lifted the mood at N17 and Tottenham have actually pulled up their socks since his arrival.
Speaking ahead of the all-important game, the Italian claimed Spurs will look to focus on themselves and figure out ways to get a result against Everton, which would ensure they stay up.
“We can’t change our style, our mentality, we have to play with order, with the right behaviour with the ball and without the ball, but we can’t change ourselves, because if we change ourselves or what we have done in my time, because I can’t speak before I came here, normally we have to be focused on the counter attack because we are very good in this part of football.
“We have to be focused on their qualities because they have very good players, especially wingers and strikers, but I think also we have the qualities and the players good enough to play a good game and to stay up.”
