At a glance:
- Dejan Kulusevski could return for Tottenham’s final game
- Roberto De Zerbi provides an update
- The Swede has been out of action for a year
Tottenham Hotspur could see Dejan Kulusevski in action during their final game of the season against Everton on May 24.
Spurs are currently battling relegation in the Premier League. They sit one point above West Ham but have a game in hand, with just two games remaining.
There are multiple reasons for their abysmal 2025-26 campaign, but one of them is the injury crisis. James Maddison and Kulusevski have yet to play a single minute for Tottenham this season.
Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi reveals his text message to Kulusevski
The Swedish attacker has been out of action since May 11 last year. He suffered a knee injury against Crystal Palace, and there has been barely any update about his potential return. Kulusevski said that he hopes to return for the FIFA World Cup this summer.
However, Roberto De Zerbi is doubtful about that. He said in his press conference (Football.London):
“I don’t know the situation well. I hope so but I don’t know his injury and I can’t say nothing more. For me, it’s difficult to understand how he can play at the World Cup if he didn’t play any games this season.”
“But I texted him after [the Villa game]. He told me in the next week, I think, he comes back and I hope he can be available to stay with us in the last game because he is an amazing player,” he added.

It’s important to note that “come back” doesn’t mean that Kulusevski will return to action. The Swede has been undergoing rehabilitation away from Tottenham for the last few weeks. Hence, he could return to join the squad as a morale boost.
Tottenham will hope Kulusevski would not feature at World Cup
With just around a month to go for the FIFA World Cup, it appears unlikely that Kulusevski will star for Sweden in the tournament.
He hasn’t even returned to individual training at Tottenham yet. He will, however, join the squad to help boost their morale.
Spurs, on the other hand, will hope he stays on his path to recovery instead of forcing himself for the World Cup. With over a year out of action, Kulusevski could do with two months of rest and recovery to get ready for the next season.
He is one of Tottenham’s Top 3 players, and they need him fully fit next campaign.

The north London side signed Kulusevski from Juventus in January 2022. He has scored 25 goals and provided 30 assists in 146 games for them.
However, his ball carrying, dribbling and playmaking abilities have a much greater impact than just pure numbers.
