At a glance:
- Tottenham fans are booking hotels in Budapest
- Arsenal have reached UCL final in Budapest
- Spurs fans are looking to cause them “financial harm”
Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have been arch-rivals for decades now, and their rivalry only continues to grow with each season.
On the pitch, the two sides have become distant in the last few years. While Arsenal have been competing at the top, Spurs have been towards the bottom end of the Premier League.
However, Tottenham still won the UEFA Europa League last season, while the Gunners haven’t won a major trophy since 2020. Now that they are closing in on two potential trophies, Spurs fans are trying to inconvenience them.
Tottenham fans book hotels and tickets in Budapest
Arsenal are set to face PSG in the Champions League final at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary, on May 30. Ticket prices for everything often increase during such big events.
Amidst this, many Tottenham fans online have claimed to have purchased multiple hotel tickets with zero-fee cancellation in Budapest.
One fan even claimed to have cancelled an Arsenal fan’s hotel booking. The latter had allegedly shared a screenshot of their booking information on social media. The Spurs fan claimed that the price of the hotel exponentially increased after they cancelled it.
Amidst this, travel broadcaster Simon Calder has criticized Tottenham fans for their alleged actions, saying on talkSPORT:
“This is absolutely terrible behaviour. Honestly, I cannot believe that Spurs fans are taking out their revenge on their north London rivals. Well, ok I can, but I think it is absolutely outrageous.”
“This is bordering on committing serious financial harm for people, particularly cancelling a really good booking at a really good price, that is just pushing things too far. Then making bookings, which you’re then going to cancel, is actually just reckless.”

Calder explained that a dorm room could potentially cost around £300 per night, while hotel prices could go from £1000 to £5000 per night in Budapest.
Tottenham fans know the struggles of attending European finals
Spurs fans have been through the entire drill of booking tickets for European finals twice in recent seasons.
They went to Madrid in 2019 to face Liverpool in the Champions League final. It ended in heartbreak, as they lost 2-0.
However, it was a much better experience during their second visit to Spain for a European final. They beat Manchester United 1-0 in Bilbao last season in the Europa League final to end their 17-year trophy curse. They also lifted their third Europa League trophy in the process.

After the 2025-26 campaign, though, they will have no European football next season and appear far away from any final either.
However, with signs of improvement under Roberto De Zerbi, they will hope to qualify for the Champions League next season. In the meantime, Tottenham fans will be rooting for PSG to beat Arsenal in Budapest later this month.
