At a glance:
- Conor Gallagher lauds Roberto De Zerbi’s
- Italian’s one-on-one meetings praised
- Tottenham have two wins under De Zerbi
It’s safe to say Roberto De Zerbi has breathed new life into a Tottenham squad that was desperately devoid of confidence and fight under Igor Tudor and Thomas Frank.
After the Italian’s arrival, the North Londoners have climbed out of the relegation zone, having won each of their last two Premier League games.
The job isn’t finished, though, as Tottenham are only a point above 17th-placed West Ham United.
Conor Gallagher has been one of the Lilywhites’ most improved players under the Italian. And the former Atletico Madrid midfielder has revealed what De Zerbi has done behind the scenes that has made a huge difference.
De Zerbi’s private Tottenham meetings
For large parts of the current campaign, the Tottenham players have cut a frustrated figure.
It looked like they needed a strong man manager to put an arm around their shoulders, and that’s seemingly exactly what De Zerbi has done.

Speaking to Football London, Gallagher said that the Tottenham players have benefited from the Italian’s private meetings, which is evident from their recent performance.
“The gaffer has been brilliant with us. He’s brought the team together.
“He’s really worked on players individually with one-to-one meetings and one-to-one chats, trying to get that belief and confidence back in the players.
“He’s done that with me and it’s made a big difference. I know he’s done that with a lot of the other lads.
“As a team as well, all the work he’s done on the training pitch and the meeting rooms has been fantastic and everyone is on the same page.”
Gallagher key for De Zerbi
During his first press conference for Tottenham, De Zerbi singled out Gallagher for special praise and challenged the England international to show his best form.
It hasn’t been plain sailing for him since joining from Atletico Madrid, although he can’t take all the blame as Tottenham have been quite poor overall this season.
However, Gallagher stepped up with a fantastic performance against Aston Villa, breaking the deadlock with a superb finish from outside the box.
After the game, De Zerbi showered high praise on Gallagher once again, which is a clear sign that he is slowly growing in stature at Tottenham.
With just three Premier League games to go, the former Chelsea man will look to carry on in the same vein to secure the club’s Premier League status.
