Tottenham Hotspur have registered back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time since the opening two games this season.

After a scrap out 1-0 win over Wolves away in their last game, Spurs emphatically beat Aston Villa 2-1 at Villa Park on Sunday. It was a dominant performance from the north London side, as they showed big improvements under Roberto De Zerbi.

Conor Gallagher and Richarlison’s first-half goals were enough to put Tottenham in a comfortable position early on. Aston Villa scored through Emi Buendia in the stoppage time, but couldn’t find an equalizer.

Glenn Hoddle heaps lauds Conor Gallagher

Every Spurs player performed really well against Aston Villa on Sunday, which led them to a dominant performance and a crucial victory.

However, one player who stood out more than the others is Gallagher. The under-fire midfielder was brilliant even aside from his impeccable strike.

Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle heaped praise on Gallagher, saying on TNT Sports:

“He is not gonna be a number 10, but he can use the ball really well, but his closing down, his work rate, set the tone for all the rest of the team.

“I said before the game, I think it’s down to, you look at each other in the dressing room and say, ‘I’m gonna be the difference today’ and they played like that. There wasn’t one bad performance from Tottenham today. They were all nine out of ten.”

“But Gallagher was the one who set the tone, and he’s ended up getting his first goal for Tottenham as well. It was a great, great game,” he added.

Gallagher was deservedly named the Premier League Player of the Match for his performance against Aston Villa.

Detailed look into Gallagher’s performance against Aston Villa

The former Chelsea captain scored an exceptional goal in the 12th minute to give Tottenham the lead against Aston Villa.

The ball dropped to him outside the box after a long throw, and he controlled it and shot it past Emi Martinez. However, Gallagher’s overall performance outside the goal was phenomenal as well.

According to SofaScore, he completed 37/43 passes, won 2/3 tackles and 4/6 ground duels, and made six recoveries. He also pressed relentlessly for the entire 90 minutes, helping Spurs out of possession.

This was clearly the Englishman’s best performance in a Tottenham shirt. De Zerbi said that Gallagher’s impact can feel like two players when he’s playing well.

It was certainly on display against Villa. Spurs fans will hope that the Englishman can continue to improve under the Italian, not just for this season, but for the future as well.
