At a glance:
- Tottenham want Youssouf Fofana
- Midfielder tipped to leave AC Milan this summer
- Other clubs also interested
Tottenham are set to be in the market for a handful of signings this summer to give Roberto De Zerbi a strong squad.
The Italian signed a five-year deal at the club without a relegation clause, so he will remain at the club next season, whether or not they avoid the drop.
The North London outfit have numbers in midfield. However, a lot of their players possess the same skill set, due to which De Zerbi could fine-tune this area of the pitch.
And if reports are to be believed, he is turning to Serie A to add a quality midfielder to his ranks.
Tottenham make offer to Youssouf Fofana’s agents
The main aim is to avoid relegation, with just four games left for the Premier League season to conclude.
However, Tottenham are pressing ahead with their transfer plans in the background, which is a sign that they are confident about avoiding the drop.

Gazzetta dello Sport report that they have already approached Youssouf Fofana, having made an offer to his representatives.
The French international cost AC Milan around €25m when he joined the club and is expected to fetch around the same fee if he departs in the summer.
Fofana is also attracting interest from Aston Villa, so Tottenham very clearly don’t have a free run at the player.
De Zerbi needs to address midfield
In recent weeks, a handful of midfielders have been linked with moves to North London and a clear pattern seems to be emerging: Serie A players.
Fiorentina’s Nicolo Fagioli is wanted by Tottenham, while Manuel Locatelli also has keen admirers at Hotspur Way.
Currently, Rodrigo Bentacur is best suited to playing as one of the deeper midfielders, while Yves Bissouma also has what it takes.
However, the likes of Conor Gallagher and Joao Palhinha don’t have the required quality on the ball, while Archie Gray and Pape Sarr are still learning the trade.
Fofana is a No.6 and has featured in almost every meaningful game for Milan this season. He could be a good fit for the club if they manage to get him for a cut-price fee, especially with Palhinha set to return to Bayern.
Whether it is Fofana or someone else, don’t be surprised to see Tottenham sign a midfielder or two in the summer transfer window.
