At a glance:
- Barcelona plotting massive Tottenham raid
- Cristian Romero among players wanted
- Relegation could prove to be catastrophic
With four Premier League games left to go, Tottenham look doomed for relegation.
Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival has led to an upturn in fortunes, with the North London outfit finally winning their first Premier League game of 2026 last week.
However, teams around them are flying at the moment, due to which they may not have their destiny in their own hands.
In terms of transfer, a mass exodus is expected if they indeed drop down to the Championship.
And if reports are to be believed, Barcelona are planning a massive raid on Tottenham that could be one for the history books.
Barcelona want five Tottenham players
Yesterday, we covered Tottenham’s interest in Marcus Rashford, who is currently on loan at Barcelona.
And now, it looks like the two clubs could also be set to do business with each other in the summer.
As relayed by Caught Offside, Barcelona are keeping tabs on five Tottenham players: Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Lucas Bergvall, Xavi Simons and Pedro Porro.
The Catalan giants have their own financial constraints, so they might look to raid the North London club and try to sign players below their market value if they get relegated.
State of play for Tottenham
Romero is likely to leave Tottenham and has already played his last game for the club as he’s currently out with an MCL injury.
Barcelona’s pursuit of him makes sense. However, Bergvall is held in high regard by Tottenham and is unlikely to be sold even if they secure relegation.
The Catalan giants held an interest in the player before his move to North London, so those links aren’t surprising either.
Simons has also been linked with Barcelona, but his ACL injury means any potential transfer won’t happen for the time being.
We’ll have to wait and see what happens with Van de Ven and Porro, but truth be told, it’s hard to imagine them playing Championship football if Tottenham get relegated.
As we mentioned earlier, a mass exodus is possible and Barcelona could well raid Tottenham.
However, De Zerbi and co need to put their foot down and avoid selling players below their market value to protect the club’s long-term interests.
