At a glance:
- Tottenham fans support Kevin Danso
- Defender made a mistake vs Brighton
- Danso was subjected to vile racist abuse
Kevin Danso has been in the thick of the action for Tottenham in recent weeks as he featured in the 1-0 win against Wolves.
Roberto De Zerbi finally got his first win in charge of the club, although their performance wasn’t noteworthy.
Nevertheless, points on the board are all that matter for Tottenham now as they only have four games to save themselves from relegation.
It was a happy outing at Molineux for the visitors, which was made better by the away fans’ gesture towards Danso.
All the love for Danso
Due to an injury to Cristian Romero, Danso has started each of Tottenham’s last two Premier League games.
In the game against Brighton, he failed to clear the ball in stoppage time, which immediately led to Georginio Rutter’s equaliser.
Michael Dawson accused Danso of switching off, as it actually cost Tottenham on the night.
And while constructive criticism – as was the case from Dawson – is acceptable, a handful of fans took to social media to racially abuse the Swiss international.
Danso responded with a strong performance vs Wolves and was also acknowledged by the Tottenham fans.
They sang his song and were seen holding banners and pluckards in support of him, which the Swiss international duly acknowledged.
Danso a key player for Tottenham
Since joining the club, Danso has been a top pro and conducted himself with utmost dignity and class.
He has also performed well more often than not and produced an assured display against Wolves.
De Zerbi praised Danso and confirmed he will be at Tottenham next season, which is a clear sign that he is rated highly by the Italian.
He is expected to retain his place at the back for the four Premier League games that remain. And Tottenham could do well with a strong character like Danso, who never shies away from a fight.
The North London side travel to Villa Park next Saturday to take on Aston Villa. After that, they will face Leeds United, Chelsea and Everton to finish the season.
Tottenham need Danso and everyone else to stand up and be counted. They need to make their newfound momentum count and put wins on the board as they are still two points below West Ham in the relegation zone.
