Former Tottenham man calls out appalling refereeing standards: ‘Shambles’

At a glance:

  • Jamie O’Hara slams referee
  • Crucial West Ham vs Everton decision addressed
  • Previous VAR blunder also mentioned

Saturday afternoon turned out to be a bit of a rollercoaster for everyone associated with Tottenham Hotspur.

West Ham’s game against Everton kicked off at the same time, so understandably, there was a lot at stake.

And the closing stages of both games were nerve-wracking, to say the least.

Tottenham scored a late winner against Wolves, at which point West Ham were 1-0 up against the Toffees.

However, Everton equalised, much to the delight of the Spurs fans. It didn’t last long, though, as Callum Wilson scored a winner to give West Ham all three points.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara – who had his eye on both games – feels two key decisions went against the North London club.

O’Hara hits out at shambolic refereeing

Wolves midfielder Andre lunged in on Yves Bissouma in what was a two-footed challenge in the first half.

However, after a brief stoppage, he was only shown a yellow card.

Later, in the West Ham vs Everton game, a clear handball was missed by the referee, with Mateus Fernandes the guilty party.

The Andre incident didn’t cost Tottenham as they got all three points. However, if Everton had got a penalty, they could have levelled the game at least.

And O’Hara feels there is an agenda against Tottenham as he took to X to voice out his frustration.

“Everyone against Spurs again today,” wrote the former Tottenham man.

“It’s a joke, Brobbey red card, red card today, two-footed tackle, ref gave us absolutely nothing, and the handball in the West Ham game is a shambles.”

VAR blunder against Tottenham

The Brian Brobbey challenge that O’Hara is referring to happened in the game against Sunderland.

The Dutch international was already on a yellow card and went unpunished for a clear push on Cristian Romero, which led to a season-ending injury for the Tottenham captain.

The Premier League admitted that Brobbey should have been sent off. However, that makes no difference to Tottenham as they lost three points on the night.

It’s not to say they would have surely beaten or drawn against Sunderland. However, playing against 10 men for 30 minutes would have surely given them a decent chance of doing so.

Let’s get things straight. Tottenham are in the relegation zone due to their own failing, make no mistake. However, they have had a handful of decisions go against them and those are just impossible to avoid mentioning.
