Tottenham are two points behind West Ham United and face an uphill battle to avoid relegation with just five Premier League games to go.
Roberto De Zerbi has breathed new life into the club and it showed against Brighton. However, with time running out, they need to start racking up wins, starting with Wolves this weekend.
Nottingham Forest and Leeds United are much closer to safety now due to their performances in recent weeks.
It looks like the battle to avoid the drop is between Tottenham and West Ham. And judging by Jamie Carragher and Dean Ashton’s comments, it’s not good news for De Zerbi and Co.
Tottenham tipped to go down
Tottenham haven’t won a Premier League game in 2026 and are in their worst run in the competition in nearly 100 years.
Carragher feels their recent run is enough proof that they will struggle to put wins on the board to secure safety.
“They haven’t won a Premier League game since December,” began Carragher on Sky.
“That’s unbelievable. So, to think they’re going to go to an away game and just win; I can’t see them losing it and they could nick it.”
When asked if Tottenham would get relegated, Ashton responded with an emphatic yes, adding that they lack the character and the personality to dig themselves out of the hole they are in currently.
“Yes, I don’t see a character within the team. The mindset – being a footballer and going in day to day is the best.
“But when you’re in the bottom three, it just isn’t very nice. The players will be used to it. I don’t see enough character and leaders or togetherness.”
Tottenham need 40 points to survive
Carragher feels Tottenham’s magic total is 40 points to avoid dropping down to the Championship.
For that to happen, they need to get nine points from their remaining five games against Wolves, Aston Villa, Leeds United, Chelsea and Everton.

It goes without saying that the game against Wolves is a must-win. Additionally, Tottenham will hope for results to go against West Ham in the coming weeks, as it looks like the relegation battle is between the two teams.
All they can control is their own destiny, so if they fail to win against Wolves, it’s safe to say they can kiss their Premier League hopes goodbye.
