Arsenal plotting ‘Sol Campbell 2.0’ to rub salt into Tottenham wounds with £50m signing

Tottenham Hotspur face a real danger of getting relegated for the first time in Premier League history this season.

The north London side are 18th in the standings, with five games remaining, and haven’t won a single game in 2026. They are five points behind Nottingham Forest and one behind West Ham, who have a game in hand.

If Tottenham get relegated, they will likely see a mass exodus of their players in the summer. Stars like Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have already been linked with moves away. However, teams are also circling around their talented youngsters.

Arsenal looking to sign Tottenham star Lucas Bergvall

The last time a Tottenham player moved to Arsenal was Sol Campbell in 2001. He won two Premier League titles, among other honors, with the Gunners and is revered at the club. However, he is absolutely hated at Tottenham.

As per GiveMeSport, Arsenal are now looking to make Lucas Bergvall their Campbell 2.0. The talented Swede has grown into an important player for Tottenham since his arrival from Djurgarden in 2024. The Gunners are ready to make a bid worth £50 million for him this summer.

Tottenham signed Bergvall from Djurgarden on his 18th birthday, i.e., February 2024. He was then sent back to the Swedish side before he joined Spurs that summer. He won all three of Tottenham’s fan awards last season, showcasing his ability and popularity in the fanbase.

According to David Ornstein, Spurs rejected offers for Bergvall from Aston Villa and rivals Chelsea in January. Those two clubs are expected to make another attempt in the summer as well.

However, the north London side are unlikely to entertain such offers. The 20-year-old’s contract also expires in 2031, giving them a big leverage in any potential negotiations.

Tottenham cannot sell Lucas Bergvall

Spurs have a huge problem in midfield and need a major rebuild of it. However, they must be wise in the players they choose to part ways with. The likes of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall can potentially be future superstars at Tottenham and must not be sold.

The likes of Joao Palhinha, Conor Gallagher, and Yves Bissouma must depart before they consider selling a talented youngster like Bergvall. However, they need to add more experience and technical skills in midfield to help these youngsters develop.

Bergvall has already made 75 senior appearances for Spurs. He is also expected to play an important role for Sweden at the FIFA World Cup this summer.

However, he is still very young and Tottenham and Roberto De Zerbi must build a good environment to get the best out of him.
