Tottenham Hotspur receive massive boost in race for Nathan De Cat

  • Tottenham’s risks could be dangerous

Tottenham have had their eye on several players ahead of the summer transfer window to rebuild their squad after two turbulent seasons. They have received a boost in their pursuit of Anderlecht’s Nathan De Cat, as Bayern Munich have pulled out of a possible deal.

CF Bayern Insider reports that the Bundesliga champions are currently not in the race for the teenager.

The report claims that Bayern are more concerned about developing their own youngsters who have come through their academy, such as Aleksandar Pavlovic and Lennart Karl.

However, if Spurs were to be relegated from the Premier League, it would be a massive blow to their chances of signing the 17-year-old.

De Cat’s rapid rise

De Cat has quickly risen through the ranks at Anderlecht and was promoted to the senior squad at the beginning of the 2024/25 season.

The highly rated youngster made his first team debut in the Europa League against Fenerbahce, in a 2-2 draw at home.

This season, he has made 29 Jupiler Pro League appearances out of a possible 30, scoring twice and registering four assists.

His performances at Constant Vanden Stock Stadium have been impressive, and he has earned recognition at the international level ahead of Belgium’s March friendlies.

Although he is someone who has featured in almost every position in the middle of the pitch, he has become an established holding midfielder, who links play well between the defence and the attack.

His decision-making and his execution have made him one of the most exciting talents in European football.

Some of Europe’s elite have shown signs of interest in the Belgian Young Player of the Year, but it seems they are backing away due to a hefty £30 million price tag, which could leave Spurs with the chance to wrap a deal up for him, if they can avoid the drop.

Can Tottenham continue to take risks?

The Lilywhites have adopted a new transfer strategy over recent seasons, which has seen them spend money on up-and-coming talents a lot more.

Just over the past few seasons, players like Archie Gray, Antonin Kinsky, Lucas Bergvall, Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel have all joined the club.

Even in January, the Spurs pulled the trigger to sign 19-year-old Souza from Brazilian club Santos.

However, with the team’s league performances over the past two seasons, can these risks continue to take place?

Gray and Bergvall have fit in well at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where they have become established players, even during this difficult period at the club.

The others have failed to live up to their transfer fee, which has cost Spurs both on and off the pitch.

While De Cat has shown real signs of quality since making his professional debut, he is just 17-years-old, and another gamble that fails could hurt Spurs even more in the long run.
