Tottenham Hotspur’s clash against Crystal Palace later today could be one of the most important games in their recent Premier League history.
Igor Tudor’s side are just a point above the relegation zone and haven’t won a Premier League game in 2026.
The prospect of relegation is looming large at N17, especially with West Ham United and Nottingham Forest finding their feet in recent weeks.
Tudor will undoubtedly take centre stage as he aims to secure his first win since being appointed interim boss.
That said, there will also be a lot of chatter around ex-Tottenham boss Thomas Frank, who is reportedly wanted by Crystal Palace to succeed Oliver Glasner.
Frank linked with managerial return
Frank’s dismal spell in charge of Tottenham ended after their 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United last month.
With Spurs languishing in 16th place, the decision was made to relieve him of his duties along with the rest of his coaching staff.
Tudor got the job a few days later and Tottenham haven’t had the new manager bounce that was expected.
Elsewhere, Frank’s dismissal means he is free to look out for other opportunities, which could come in the form of Palace.
According to the Sun, the Eagles have lined him up as a potential replacement for Glasner, who will leave Selhurst Park at the end of the season upon expiry of his contract.
Things unravelled at Tottenham pretty quickly for the Dane, but given his Premier League experience with Brentford, he could be exactly what the doctor ordered for Palace.
And while he isn’t associated with the North London side anymore, recent links with Palace mean his name will emerge as a big talking point ahead of the game, representing a cruel football irony.
What went wrong for Frank at Tottenham?
The short answer is pretty much everything. After winning the UEFA Europa League, Tottenham made the difficult decision to part ways with Ange Postecoglou as they finished 16th in the Premier League last season.
Frank’s arrival was topped up with a few key additions in the transfer market as Xavi Simons, Joao Palhinha, Randal Kolo Muani and Mohammed Kudus joined the club.
However, due to a combination of injuries and poor form, the Dane oversaw just 13 wins from 38 games across all competitions, which led to his eventual sacking.
And now, with the prospect of relegation looming large, Paul Merson predicts Tottenham to lose to Palace later today, which would be a catastrophic result.
If Spurs are somehow relegated, Frank, Tudor and the Tottenham players will go down in history, certainly not for the right reasons.
