Tottenham Hotspur’s managerial situation has been the talk of the town after the recent sacking of Thomas Frank.
The Dane was relieved of his duties after their 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United in midweek saw them slip to 16th in the Premier League standings.
Roberto de Zerbi has emerged as a target for Tottenham after his recent departure from Marseille, with the Italian already having managed in the Premier League with Brighton & Hove Albion.
However, a report from The Telegraph confirms that Robbie Keane – who enjoyed two successful stints at the club as a player – is also among the candidates under consideration.
That said, the Irishman has already voiced his opinion on whether or not he would like to return to North London as a manager.
Robbie Keane interested in Tottenham job
Keane led Ferencvaros to the league title in Hungary last season after taking over the reigns in January 2025. They also lead the way domestically this season after 21 matchdays, although ETO Gyor are level on points with them currently (40).
Tottenham fans hold the Irishman in high regard because of his playing career, due to which his arrival could breathe new life into the club.
The Telegraph report that Keane would be interested in taking the job, although he has no intention of filling in as an interim boss.
Spurs officials have placed Marco Rose and Edin Terzic on their shortlist, alongside Mauricio Pochettino, who could return to the club after leading the USA in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The report also states that Tottenham are currently on the lookout for an interim manager to see off the rest of the season, in which case, Keane would be out of the running.
What has Keane said about Tottenham links?
Reporters quizzed Keane directly about moving to Tottenham last month as pressure continued to pile on Frank.
At the time, the Irishman delivered a rather diplomatic response, although he did appear to suggest that he is keeping an eye on all the speculation surrounding his future.
“I think it’s impossible not to be aware of anything these days, to be honest with you, especially when you have two kids who are Tottenham fans,” said Keane to the Press Association via The Independent.
“Thomas Frank is a very, very good manager. He just started there.”
“But I’ll be honest with you, it goes over my head. I concentrate on what I’m doing. I think it’s nice that your name is there. Who puts it there?
Between the report from the Telegraph and Keane’s own comments, he has made his intentions abundantly clear. The Irishman will definitely withdraw from the running if Tottenham insist on appointing an interim coach until the end of the season.
However, come the end of the season, if Tottenham decide Keane is the man to help kickstart a new era at the club, it could be an offer too big to refuse for the 45-year-old, who continues to make a massive impression in Hungary.
