Grealish keen on Aston Villa stay – but should Spurs make one last approach?

Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish reportedly has no interest in joining Tottenham Hotspur this summer – but should Spurs test the club’s resolve with one last bid?

Skysports write that Grealish is happy to stay at his home town club after they gained promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs earlier this week.

The 23-year-old managed six goals and seven assists in all competitions last season, which was affected for s significant period of time with a shin injury.

He is often given the freedom to drift across all attacking areas of the pitch, popping up in central, wide and deeper roles in order to best affect the game as he sees fit.

His ability to ghost past players and pick out team-mates with his wide range of passing makes him a significant attacking threat, and his trickery often benefits the team by drawing fouls from opposition defenders.

However, despite his undoubted potential, it is safe to say he is not up to the levels of the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Lucas Moura, so the Englishman would probably be afforded more of an impact substitute role.

Given the fact that Spurs had a bid of nearly £25m backed last summer and he is now a Premier League player, a bid of closer to £40m would probably be needed in order to convince the Midlands club to sell.

In addition, the playmaker only signed a new five-year contract last September and would be likely to command a hefty wage.

With all those factors in mind, Spurs would probably be better off turning their attention elsewhere, and Mauricio Pochettino would hope to find a player with top division experience for that sort of price tag.
