Ex-Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele has given his reasons for joining Chinese club Guangzhou R&F in January.
As reported by Skysports, Dembele revealed his want for a ‘different experience’ was a key factor behind his move to Asia.
The 31-year-old joined Spurs from London rivals Fulham in 2012 and amassed 250 appearances for the North London outfit.
The Chinese club paid £11m for his services last month, with Tottenham believing it was an acceptable deal given the fact his contract was due to run out this summer.
Given his age, many questioned the move, with critics claiming his only motivation for the switch was of a financial nature.
However, the Belgian international said his ‘open-mindedness’ and social skills led him to want to explore life on a different continent.
He said:
I’m a social guy I think. I’m not too serious. I don’t like to be too serious. I think off the pitch I can have a laugh with everyone. I like to see myself as open-minded. That is one of the reasons I wanted to come to China. I wanted to see something different. I wanted to have a different experience in life. I heard already there is good food in Guangzhou. I will try this a lot. I think my family will enjoy it as well here.
