Spanish giants Real Madrid have entered the race to sign Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld as they look to improve their defence, according to Calcio Mercato.
Los Blancos see the Belgian as one of their top targets, as they sit second in La Liga behind their rivals Barcelona in the current title race.
Spurs have yet to enter any new talks with the player which has drawn the attention of Madrid who are keen to move in should Spurs struggle to offer him a new deal.
Alderweireld has recently returned from injury but didn’t feature in his sides Champions League draw in Juventus on Tuesday night but is expected to play against Rochdale in the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.
In the players contract there is a £25 million release clause which would come into affect next season and so Spurs are likely to want to cash in and gain more for the player if they were to lose him on the cheap the year after.
