Spurs eye double deal for Shaw and Barkley

Reports in the Sunday Express have said that Tottenham are looking to make a double January signing of two Englishmen – Luke Shaw and Ross Barkley.

Spurs have picked up form as of late but Pochettino wants to strengthen his squad to challenge for major honours in the later part of the season.

Luke Shaw has found himself on the periphery of the Manchester United squad ever since Mourinho came to the helm.

Ross Barkley has been injured for the entirety of the season but that didn’t stop him from nearly making the move to Stamford Bridge on deadline day.

There’s no doubting Barkley’s ability but with competition from Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen, game time would not be guaranteed.

In a World Cup year it may be a risk for Barkley to make the move as he may fall down Gareth Southgate’s pecking order and potentially out of the squad once he returns from injury and not get the game time required at Tottenham that he most definitely would get at Everton.

Although Shaw has been getting more game time as of late, Mourinho openly questioned Shaw last season and is open to selling him in January.

A move to Tottenham would be good for Shaw as he would fit right into Pochettino’s system and perhaps start knocking on Gareth Southgate’s World Cup door.
