Tottenham right-back Serge Aurier has claimed that he was in advanced negotiations with Barcelona over the summer.
Aurier signed for Tottenham from PSG in the summer, with the defender now revealing it could have been very different,
He has revealed that he held talks with Barcelona, who ended up opting against the move due to his reputation.
Speaking to The Mirror, Aurier said this:
I think my reputation made four or five big European sides afraid.
I was negotiating with Barcelona, very advanced negotiations. And Barcelona’s people were not sure if I came here things would be different.
Aurier has already picked up a red card for Spurs this season and has struggled to nail down a regular place in the side.
The Ivorian has played five Premier League games this season. Kieran Trippier has often been preferred down the right side.
Barcelona were reportedly interested in Aurier in the summer, with the fullback now confirming that to have been the case.
The Spanish giants backed out of the deal, though, and Spurs swooped in to bolster their squad.
Tottenham paid £23m to bring Aurier from France to England.
