Tottenham Hotspur played Burnley this afternoon at Wembley Stadium at 4pm. Spurs were really looking for a win to help put some of the ‘Wembley woes’ to bed. After a fairly unspectacular first half, with a few wasted chances by both teams, Deli Ali was in the right place at the right time to put Spurs ahead just after the restart. The score remained the same until Chris Woods’ injury time equaliser earned Burnley a point. Harry Kane won’t be happy with his finishing today as he looked to score his 100th goal for Spurs. Kane also would have liked to score in August which will evade him for another season. The result leaves Spurs with 4 points from a possible 9 and 9th in the league after 3 games played. Tottenham don’t play again until the 9th September where they travel to a difficult game at Everton.
Let’s take a look at the player ratings:
Hugo Lloris - 6
After a difficult start, Lloris made a great diving save against Brady and a good tackle on Wood. There wasn’t much he could do about the equaliser though.
Kieran Trippier - 5
Trippier was trying to push up the pitch, but didn’t deliver much in the final third. Chris Wood managed to get in behind Keiran for the late equaliser.
Toby Alderweireld - 7
Good passing from Toby, and he kept it tight at the back. Was very deep at the end of the game and ended up playing Wood onside who went on to score.
Jan Vertonghen - 8
Good effort from Vertonghen. He’s tried to push up as much as possible. Got himself into a few good forward positions. Man of the match for Tottenham.
Ben Davies - 7
Ben Davies had a good game. He was right in amongst the action and was unlucky not to have two assists.
Eric Dier - 8
Eric Dier did his job in midfield and had a couple of decent chances. He was also involved Deli Ali’s goal with a flicked on header.
Mousa Dembele - 7
Mousa Dembele played his 200th game for Spurs in typical fashion today. Solid in midfield, and did his best to press forward for the team.
Christian Eriksen - 7
Christian Eriksen was trying to make things happen today, although he left some of the set pieces to the full-backs. His corner lead to Spurs’ goal.
Heung-Min Son - 6
Heung-Min Son put in a good shift in the first half running at the Burnley defence, but seemed to run out steam in the second half.
Dele Alli - 8
Dele Alli looked good today and deserved his goal when it came. He didn’t celebrate his goal for some reason though. He put good pressure on the Burnley defence.
Harry Kane - 6
Harry Kane gave it everything to try to score what would be his 100th goal for Spurs but it didn’t happen. Another August without a goal and he won’t be happy with his finishing today.
