20 years ago, Alan Shearer won the Premier League Golden Boot and backed that up by winning the same award at Euro 96, and the former England striker is backing Harry Kane to do the same double in 2016.
Shearer is one of just two Englishmen to win the top scorer award at a major tournament, Gary Lineker is the other, but he believes that Harry Kane will become the third this summer.
Kane is still new to international football having earned just ten caps, but he looks to have taken to it like he has taken to the Premier League, having scored four times already.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Shearer is backing Kane to continue on his remarkable rise this summer:
There’s no reason why Harry can’t emulate what Gary Lineker and myself have done. The form he’s in, I’m sure that’s what he’s looking to do. When I spoke to him, his answer was the same, and why not? He has the ability, he’s had a fantastic season
Shearer also said that he doesn’t think the way Tottenham’s season ended will have knocked Kane’s confidence too much, but it will have left him feeling disappointed.
It was a bit disappointing at the end with the championship for him, but goalscoring-wise and form-wise he’ll go into the tournament full of confidence. And I’m sure he’ll go into it as the number one striker.
