Mauricio Pochettino hopes an eight-day rest for his Tottenham players will be enough to get a win against Manchester United next week.
Tottenham have been flooded with fixtures over the past few months, but after being eliminated by Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League last 16, now Spurs will be focusing on the Premier League title race.
Along with the 47 matches, Spurs have been involved in, players have also departed on international duty and it was evident that some were tired in Tottenham’s match against Liverpool last Saturday.
Pochettino sees the eight-day rest as a chance for Tottenham to put some extra work on the training ground when he spoke with the Evening Standard.
We’ve had a lot of midweek games but it will be nice to have a bit of recovery time and then work hard to try to get the three points against United on Sunday.
In football, you always need to be ready for the next game. Now we have a few days to recover and try to prepare for United.
It’s important because we only really had one day to prepare for Liverpool. International weeks can be difficult, 90 per cent of the players are away but now we have six games left in six weeks and time to prepare the players.
Pochettino made clear that regardless of the lead Leicester City have on Tottenham at the top of the table, his side will fight until the season is over.
We will fight until the end of the season.
Leicester extended their lead to seven points at the top of the Premier League last Sunday with a 1-0 win over Southampton whilst Spurs drew 1-1 with Liverpool at Anfield the day before.
