Harry Kane has told the Evening Standard that the key to Spurs’ success this season has been the lack of ‘bad eggs’ in the squad.
The North Londoners currently sit second in the league, five points off Leicester, but crucially ahead of local rivals Arsenal which represents a stark and impressive improvement compared to this time last season.
When asked about this, Kane responded:
Everyone in this group works hard and is working towards the same thing. Even the players who don’t play are still working hard in training and doing all the right things to try to get into the team, which is important. If you have one or two bad eggs, it can bring others down others — and we don’t have that. Everyone is fighting for each other and we are in a lot of competitions, so people know they will play games to try to impress the manager. We’ve got to try to keep that belief high. It has been another year with the manager, building his philosophy. We had a good pre-season and we have a good bunch of lads.
This comes after the well-publicised exodus at White Hart Lane over the summer, in which Emmanuel Adebayor, Aaron Lennon, Etienne Capoue, Roberto Soldado and Younes Kaboul, left the club to name but a few.

During Pochettino’s first season at White Hart Lane, there were persistent rumours of dressing room rifts and fall outs which led to the abandonment of previously influential figures, Adebayor and Kaboul.
However, Kane reiterates that this is no longer the case, claiming that the team is together and fighting for a mutual cause, adding:
There are some pretty good players in this squad and everyone is together, which is important. There is nobody who doesn’t want to train or who tries to take it easy, because none of the players would let him do that. Everyone speaks up and tells each other what is needed to be done to reach the top, which is why we’ve got a great team. Everyone is chipping in and that is all we can ask for.
Kane was never going to go into specifics when talking about this subject but it does reaffirm the validity of the rumours of disharmony in the camp.
Nevertheless, Spurs fans will be happy to hear that this is clearly no longer the case, and as the team mount a title charge, Pochettino’s decision to expel certain members of the squad seems more justified than ever.
