Tottenham secured a vital 1-0 win over Watford at White Hart Lane, thanks to Kieran Trippier’s goal in the second half. The result means that Spurs move into second place in the Premier League, five points off top spot.
The first half saw Spurs fail to break down a resolute Watford defence, as the away side defended very well in the first half with ex-Spurs goalkeeper Gomes making a number of saves and Harry Kane failing to put a number of efforts on target.

The second half began in the same fashion, with Harry Kane denied a penalty in the 51st minute when he was brought down inside the penalty area, with the referee giving a corner instead. However, the introduction of Dele Alli in the 62nd minute in place of Nacer Chadli gave Spurs a new lease of life, with Alli providing the assist for Trippier’s goal less than five minutes later with a ball across the penalty area from which Trippier tapped home at the far post.
Despite Watford best effort’s, they failed to get back into the game and the result means that Spurs are now in second place, only five points behind Leicester who are in top spot.
Spurs now move onto their next game, which is against Manchester City at the Etihad next Sunday.
