According to reports in Italy, Tottenham are close to completing the signing of Marseille and Cameroon international Nicolas N’koulou.
CalcioMercato claim that a deal in the region of £5.2 million has been reached for the 25 year-old who is out of contract at the French club in the summer who do not wish to lose one of their key players on a free.
This would represent a good deal for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, as N’Koulou who has been capped 63 times by his country, has been consistently one of the best central defenders in Ligue 1 over the past few seasons.
At 5″11, the former Monaco man is relatively short for a Premier League defender, however he more than makes up for this with his pace, strength and athleticism as well as his ability to bring the ball out from the back.
This makes N’koulou perfect for the current Spurs side where ball-playing centre-backs are a necessity, typified by the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.
In addition to this, at such a low price and still relatively young, the defender fits perfectly into Pochettino and chairman Daniel Levy’s transfer strategy making N’Koulou a highly promising addition.
Should the Cameroonian leave, it could pave the way for fellow centre half, Federico Fazio’s exit from White Hart Lane.
The Argentine has found opportunities hard to come by at White Hart Lane since arriving from Sevilla in the summer of 2014, struggling to even make the bench at all in recent months.
Reports in the media, suggest that a move back to his former club is on the cards, which would be welcome from all parties involved.
