Kane: Newcastle defeat was wake-up call

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has admitted the recent home defeat to Newcastle United was a “kick up the butt.”

Spurs lost their 14-match unbeaten run when Hugo Lloris let a late Ayoze Perez shot in second half stoppage time slip through his fingers.

But throughout this season, Spurs have failed to hold onto leads in the Premier League and as such, lead the way in the division with 11 points dropped from winning positions.

That disappointing defeat was put firmly behind them on Saturday afternoon when they beat a struggling Southampton side 2-0 at St. Mary’s, with Kane himself on the scoresheet for the first time in a month.

And speaking to Ham and High and reported by HITC Sport, Kane admits Spurs were complacent prior to the Southampton victory.

“Newcastle was probably a kick up the butt that we needed because we drew a couple of games.

“Maybe we were just getting a bit complacent so that maybe woke us up a bit. We definitely won’t be doing that against Norwich.”

Kane netted his 11th goal of the campaign as he put a difficult start to the season firmly behind him and has now scored 10 goals in his last 10 games for Spurs.
