Match Report: Southampton 0-2 Tottenham

Tottenham moved into the top four as two goals from Harry Kane and Dele Alli before half-time sealed victory for Tottenham at St Mary’s.

Spurs, who lost for the first time since the opening day last weekend, were put under pressure early on from a Southampton side looking to bounce back after a number of poor results recently and would have been ahead, had Lloris not made a magnificent save to deny Mane.

However, as the game edged towards half-time, it would be Tottenham that took the lead, when Kane slotted past Gazzaniga to end his recent mini goal drought. Then just over two minutes later, Walker advanced down the right and found Alli in acres of space inside the penalty area, who then took a touch before firing into the Southampton net.

As the game advanced into the second half, Spurs dominated possession as Pochettino’s side won their first away game since beating Bournemouth 5-1 at the end of October.

The win now means that Tottenham move into the top four and Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping his side can remain there until the end of the season.
