Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela has backed his teammates to move on from defeat to Newcastle United, by taking all three points against Southampton.
Spurs let a first-half lead slip, to concede two late goals to Steve McClaren’s side, to bring an end to their 14 match unbeaten run in the Premier League and also lose the chance to go above Manchester United in fourth.
Lamela was arguably Spurs’ best player in an otherwise dour match and the Argentine has certainly been an outstanding performer for Tottenham this season.
The 23-year-old has become integral under Mauricio Pochettino, but couldn’t prevent his side from falling to The Magpies last Sunday, a defeat he says, the club can easily turnaround against Southampton.
According to the Evening Standard, Lamela told Tottenham’s website: “We are disappointed with the last game because of the final result, but we are confident that we can change our luck against Southampton.”
“We know it’s a difficult game, we know them and we’re aware that they are a very good team, but we are a good team as well so hopefully we can enjoy a good match.
“My goal at Southampton [last season] is a good memory, but it’s in the past now. Now we need to think about Southampton again, and we need to win this weekend.”
Spurs are unbeaten against Southampton in their last six matches, with The Saints failing to beat Tottenham since their promotion to the Premier League in 2012.
