A late goal from Ayoze Perez in injury time gave Newcastle a deserved a win at White Hart Lane, as they ended Tottenham’s 14 game unbeaten run.
Spurs who gave a start to Tom Carroll in midfield, with Mousa Dembele still unavailable, were the better team in the first half and were twice denied by Rob Elliot in the Newcastle goal, who saved well twice from Erik Lamela.
However, Tottenham eventually made the breakthrough in the 39th minute, when Christian Eriksen’s corner was headed in by Eric Dier, despite Elliot getting a hand on it and it meant that Spurs went into the break with a deserved lead.
In the second half, Newcastle were the better team and they scored a deserved equalizer in the 74th minute, after Coloccini’s header across goal from a free kick was put into the back of the net by Mitrovic after Lloris and Alderweireld failed to clear the ball.
Then with the game entering the dying moments, Perez was played through on goal and he fired past Hugo Lloris, who should have done better to give Newcastle a deserved win and end Tottenham’s unbeaten run.
For Mauricio Pochettino, he must now concentrate his attention on Tottenham’s next league game, which is against Southampton next weekend.
