Tottenham took all three points against Qarabag in Baku, with the winner coming from Harry Kane in the second half.
Before the game, many fans were surprised to see Pochettino pick such a strong starting line-up, bearing in mind there is a crucial game against Chelsea on Sunday. Harry Kane once again started up front, whilst the likes of Eric Dier, Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Hugo Lloris all played.
The first half saw Spurs have a couple of opportunities to put themselves into the lead, with Ryan Mason having two efforts on goal within the opening 10 minutes. Dele Alli had a better chance to put Spurs 1-0 up, but he put his shot wide after being played through by Kieran Trippier. However, Qarabag held firm and it meant the sides went in level at 0-0.
The second half started off much the same as the first, with both sides cancelling each other out. However, the game that began to become more open as both sides chased a goal and Son was unlucky not to open the scoring in the 64th minute, when he crashed a shot from the edge onto the box into the crossbar. In the 78th minute, Harry Kane opened the scoring after nodding in Christian Eriksen’s cross.
The result means that Spurs have qualified from their Europa League group with a game to spare and now can focus their attention on the crucial game in the Premier League against Chelsea on Sunday.
