Can Tottenham finish in the top four?

After twelve league games Tottenham have only lost once, which was their opening fixture of the campaign against Manchester United. Where Kyle Walker put the ball in his own net and Tottenham were very unlucky to comeaway without a point. Tottenham have already faced three of the teams that finished inside of the top four in the previous campaign, resulting in 4 pointsout of a possible 9. So could this be Tottenham’s year to finally break into the champion’s league?

Tottenham boast one of the tightest defences of the league, ledby a solid partnership of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen. They have only conceded 10 goals this season, many of which have been conceded from winning positions with the end result being a draw. This has been Tottenham’s biggest problem so far, losing out on vital points and the sole reason for them being placed only 5th despite them being 11 games unbeaten.

At the start of the season it could be said that Tottenham’s attacking force was not playing as exceptionally well as its defence. It HarryKane a 748 minute draught to finally score against Manchester City, in their 7th game of the league campaign. Harry Kane was in tremendous form last season scoring an astonishing 21 league goals equalling a premier league club record, and picking up the PFA Young Player of the Year in the process.

It could be argued that if Harry Kane had carried through his sublime form into the 2015/16 season, would Tottenham currently be sat topof the Table? If that had been the case, and he had scored earlier on in theseason Tottenham would have picked up those crucial points that they need, andwould be comfortably sat within the top 4. They saw off the current top placed Manchester City in a 4-1 slaughtering at home. Now with Harry Kane’s scoringback onto a roll, and his confidence at a high, what is there to stop Pochettino’svery young side gaining Champions League qualification?

Ex-Arsenal player Paul Merson believes that Tottenham will finish third saying:

I’ve been very impressed with them and they’ve completely changed my opinion. What they did at the Emirates was phenomenal. They’ve got a great young squad and a very, very good manager in Mauricio Pochettino. The key for them is their best players need to stay fit. People have got to start respecting Tottenham and I definitely think they’ll finish above Manchester United.

Although Paul Merson maybe slightly ambitious on Chelsea’s behalf in his predictions, It is hard to argue against his opinion on Tottenham this season.

Leicester City have been playing great so far this season, led by sublime efforts by Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez, but do they have whatit takes to continue this form throughout till the end of the season.
